South Flank Casemates 22/09/2010

Right this was our third and we had decided last attempt in the dark to find the entrance,google earth images look nothing like they do in the dark in real life,this we have discovered last 2 nights in the rain,So with unclebulgaria and this time joined by nitewalker and tony we set off intent on getting in and attempting that pipe,found our entrance which wasnt the one previously suggested but the one we found last week just as the rain drove us back.So from there we struggled along the moat until we found the entrance,after a stroll round the south section we started our way thru the chalk section to go look at the pipe..first man thru shouted back just how wet and nasty the clay was getting took a quick shot of the very wet pipe and suggested to leave that for another trip ..so as it was late and to be honest we where happy to have actually found our way into the south flank we turned back.Finding the easier more obvious route out and came home a bit worse for wear with the brambles and thorns ..but happy we did it

I know a few are similar shots just slightly different angles..towards the end of the pics i took i must have knocked my focus out..anyways glad to have done it..will get round to squeezing through the chal passage to face the pipe know i know where im going

nice one guys. Ive never known of anyone whos worked as hard as you to find this one lol. Looks like luck was finally on your side.
You seriously need to try and get up here during the day though. One of the best things about this place is all the natural light that floods the casemates and makes them perfect to photograph during the day. Saying that, you have some nice photos there and i look forward to seeing pictures of you guys getting through that pipe. Well done to UB for getting through it but we all know that wevsky was too sared to follow lol

ah obs uncle b didnt get thru it that was the south casemates end..he was first in the line of old gits crawling the the chalk tunnel...and on ub's advice we rtetreated..id of slid thru like i was covered in kyjelly mate i may be next time:)

yes andy ill make sure he goes firt next time mate..he'll get stuck tho dunno if we'd fit thru..right question to those who have been we had to climb up to entrance a fair height yet when in there..there was no downstairs ..so whats in the part under neath where we climbed up???

tony brought it to my attention..and yes detatched was the same im thinking foundations are deep due to ditches they are buiilt in maybe

the ditches arebuiltat varying heights to catch the invaders unawares. the idea is that they climb down or up a level,go round a corner and then prevented from escaping a hail of rifle fire by the next level change and slowed by the previous
